Alfabet FastLane ensures that the right people will see the right information at the right time. The following section explains the concepts behind what users can see and do in Alfabet FastLane.

About our preconfigured user profiles:

User profiles are the entry point to Alfabet FastLane. Every user must log in with a user profile that has been assigned by a user administrator. Users may have more than one user profile depending on their responsibilities. Your user profile will determine the set of functionality and views that you see as well as whether you have read-only vs. read/write permissions to the the objects that are visible.

The following user profiles are supported:

• Portofolio Admin

  This user profile is for superusers who are responsible to complete administrative tasks. It provides exclusive access to views that are required for user and account management, data import, event tracking, and configuration. Furthermore, all other functionalities, views, and data in Alfabet FastLane are available to the Portfolio Admin user profile. A user with the Portfolio Admin user profile has read/write permissions to all data in the database as well as the right to edit or delete objects regardless of the release status or user group definition.

• Portfolio Manager

  This user profile is for users who are responsible to input and maintain data relevant for IT portfolio management. It provides access to analytics based on relevant business questions and to the data workbenches that allow that data to be maintained and understood in detail. Users with this profile have read/write permissions to all objects that they have authorized access to via the user group definition. Portfolio managers may add new data to Alfabet FastLane in order to keep the application and technology portfolios up-to-date and accurate.

• Viewer

  This user profile is for users who are interested in seeing up-to-date analytics about the IT portfolio in order to understand the most business-relevant questions and make informed strategic decisions. Users logging in with this user profile have read-only access permissions to all business questions and can see the detailed data for all objects that they have authorized access to via the user group definition.

About permissions to work with data:

Access permission to an object is based on the concept of user groups. For each application, component, business capability, etc., one or more user groups are specified by the user creating the object. The users in the user groups specified for the object will be able to see the object in Alfabet FastLane.

Please note that a person assigned to an object's authorized user groups will not have read/write access permissions based on the user group definition. If the user shall have read/write permissions to an object, they must be assigned to a user profile that has read/write permissions.

An object will be visible based on the following three principles:

1. If the user is assigned the Portfolio Admin user profile. A user with this user profile has complete access permissions to the object.
2. If the user is part of a user group that has been assigned access permissions to the object.
3. If the object that the user wants to access is not assigned access permissions via a user group. In this case, everyone has access permissions to the object.
