Capture the business context

Add business capabilities and assign applications to them: In the navigation panel, click Business Architecture > Business Capabilities to open the data workbench for business capabilities.​ The explorer shows the hierarchy of business capabilities.

The Business Capability Landscape view displays all existing business capabilities in your IT portfolio. The visualization shows business capabilities on the first level of the hierarchy as the outer box. Subordinate business capabilities are nested in their parent business capability. Applications that support a business capability are nested in the business capability they support.

  1. To add a new business capability to the first level of the explorer hierarchy, click the Business Capabilities node. In the Business Capability Landscape view add a new business capability that is located on the first level of the business capability hierarchy. The business capability is on the first level of the explorer hierarchy and is visualized as an outer box in the view.
  2. To add a subordinate business capability, click a business capability in the explorer and open the Sub-Domains view.
  3. To add applications already in the repository to a business capability, go to Application Architecture > Applications to open the data workbench for applications. Select an application and click the navigate button. Go to the Business Context tab and open the Associated Domains view. You can define the business capabilities that the application provides.

Add business processes and assign applications to them: In the navigation panel, click Business Architecture > Business Processes to open the data workbench for business processes.​ The explorer shows the hierarchy of business processes in the business process model.

  1. To add a new business process, click the Business Processes node. In the Business Processes view add a new business process. Define the Name and the Level ID fields. In the Level ID field, enter the hierarchy level where the business process is located. The business process is on the specified level of the explorer hierarchy.
  2. To add a subordinate business process, click a business process in the explorer and open the Subordinate Business Processes view.
  3. To add applications already in the repository to a business process, go to Application Architecture > Applications to open the data workbench for applications. Select an application and click the navigate button. Go to the Business Context tab and open the Business Processes view. You can add the business processes that the application provides operational support to.

Add organizations and specify which applications they use: In the navigation panel, click Business Architecture > Organizations to open the data workbench for organizations.​ The explorer shows the hierarchy of organizations.

  1. To add a new organization to the first level of the explorer hierarchy, click the Organizations node. In the Organizations view, add a new organization. The organization is on the first level of the explorer hierarchy.
  2. To add a subordinate organization, click an organization in the explorer and open the Subordinate Organizations view.
  3. To add applications already in the repository to an organization, go to Application Architecture > Applications to open the data workbench for applications. Select an application and click the navigate button. Go to the Business Context tab and open the Used Organizations view. You can define the organizations that the application uses.

Add locations: In the navigation panel, click Business Architecture > Locations to open the data workbench for locations.​ The explorer shows the hierarchy of locations.

  1. To add a new location at the top level of the explorer hierarchy, click the Locations node. In the Locations view, add a new location. The location is on the first level of the explorer hierarchy.
  2. To add a subordinate location, click a location in the explorer and open the Sub-Locations view.

Add vendors: In the navigation panel, click Business Architecture > Vendors to open the data workbench for vendors.​ To add a new vendor, click the Vendors node. In the Vendors view, add a new vendor.
