Creating a New Virtual Alias
Perform the following steps to create a new virtual alias for the API, and save it to CentraSite.
To create a new virtual alias
1. In CentraSite Business UI, display the details page for the native API that you want to create a virtual copy.
2. In the action bar for the API, click Virtualize
3. In the Virtualize <API_Name> (Step 1 of 3) wizard, enter the following information in the fields provided:
In this field...
Do the following...
Create a New Virtual Alias
Mandatory. Enter a name for the new virtual API. An API name can contain any character (including spaces).
An API name does not need to be unique within the registry. However, if for example, a virtual API with the same name already exists within the native API, a warning message will be issued.
By default, CentraSite populates the Create a New Virtual Alias field with the display name that was specified for the native API.
Reconfigure an Existing Virtual Alias
Alternatively, if the native API has one or more existing virtual APIs, select the radio button next to an existing virtual API and reconfigure the action parameters and gateways to suit your requirements.
Endpoints of <API_name> to be virtualized
Select the radio button next to the endpoint that you want the virtual API to invoke.
The Endpoints list contains the URLs of all endpoints which are configured for the native API.
Resources of <API_name> to Virtualize
Applicable only for REST APIs. Select the radio button next to the resources that you want to apply for the virtual API or select "All" if you want to apply all resources.
The Resources list contains the names of all resources which are defined for the native REST API.
4. Click Next.
5. In the Virtualize <API_Name> (Step 2 of 3) wizard, drag and drop the actions that you want CentraSite to execute for the API at run-time. Configure the parameters for each action as described in Configuring Policy Action Parameters.
If necessary, you might also do one of the following:
*Click Previous to return to the Virtualize <API_Name> (Step 1 of 3) wizard and change your endpoint selections.
*Click Virtualize to create the virtual copy of the API (without publishing to the gateways).
For descriptions of the built-in run-time actions that CentraSite provides for virtual APIs, see Built-In Run-Time Actions Reference for APIs.
6. Click Next.
7. In the Virtualize <API_Name> (Step 3 of 3) wizard, choose the gateways to that you want to publish the virtual API. If you need procedures for this step, see Virtualized APIs in CentraSite Business UI.
8. Click Publish. CentraSite automatically virtualizes and publishes the virtual API to the selected gateways.
If necessary, you might also do one of the following:
*Click Previous to return to the Virtualize <API_Name> (Step 2 of 3) wizard and change your action configurations.
*Click Virtualize to create the virtual copy of the API (without publishing to the gateways).
