Analyze the data: What is our roadmap?

The business question What is our roadmap? provides an overview of application lifecycles including the lifecycles of the predecessor and successor applications. It helps you to know which applications are approaching end-of-life but have no defined successor application so that you can plan, communicate, and take corrective action for applications that are at risk.

To open this business question, go to the left navigation panel, click to expand Business Questions, click to expand Roadmapping and click What is our roadmap? 

The Gantt chart shows when applications are planned to be implemented and when they will reach end-of-life. All successor applications of a selected application are shown. The successor relations are visualized as dependencies whereby a black vertical line starts with the predecessor's end date and points to the successor application.

Examine each application lifecycle and identify the applications that will reach end-of-life and have no successor applications defined. To define a successor application, open the editor and specify the Successor Application attribute.

Assess whether an application has a planned migration to a predecessor application. Select Name or End Date in the Sort Order filter field to find the applications that will retire soon. Click the header of the Strategic column to show the strategic applications on top. Assess which of the strategic applications will retire soon. Is a successor application defined?

Recommendation: If no successor application is defined, you can consider whether the application should be migrated to a successor version or a different application. Or can the application be retired?

Understand the impact of an application's migration on a business capability. Select a business capability in the Business Capability filter field to understand which applications support a business capability and whether a successor application is defined for an application that reaches end-of-life.whether application migration is defined. Migration is represented by black arrows linking applications.

Recommendation: If no successor application is specified, open the application's editor and specify the Successor Application attribute.
