Get started with the Application Manager user profile

Alfabet FastLane enables a single-source of truth about the applications in your IT portfolio. All applications should be documented to ensure that the application portfolio is reliable to make good strategic decisions. You can add new applications to the repository and maintain the data on applications that are already in the system.

The Application Manager user profile is for users who are responsible for capturing data relevant for application portfolio management. A user with this user profile has the following permissions:

  • Edit permissions for applications
  • Read-only permissions for referenced data

Users with the Application Manager user profile can create new applications and capture all relevant information about an application such as the business capabilities that the application supports, the information flows with other applications in order to transfer business data, or the components that the application uses. With the Application Manager user profile, you can see existing assets that already exist in the repository but you will not be able to create them. Therefore, references to other objects such as business capabilities, business data, or components can only be made if they already exist in the repository.

The visibility of applications as well as other assets in Alfabet FastLane is based on the concept of user groups. Therefore, you will only see the applications that are assigned to the user groups you have been assigned to. You can view your user groups by clicking Object Access in the left navigation panel. Applications that you create are assigned to your user group per default, but the user group definition can be changed.
