Assess the applications and their impact on business capabilities

The business question What is our landscape? provides insights to the business capabilities, their dependencies, and the applications providing functional support to the business capabilities. Understanding the current application landscape is critical to plan your IT portfolio roadmap.

The visualization shows business capabilities (level 1) with subordinate business capabilities (level 2) nested inside. Nested inside the level 2 business capabilities are applications. These are the applications providing support to either the level 2 business capabilities or their subordinate levels.

This business question requires the availability of at-least 2 levels of business capabilities in your portfolio.

This report provides you with a snapshot of the application landscape organized by business capability at any point in time. It allows you to visualize application KPIs and color rules for rapid analysis. With that you can identify risks due to potential gaps in IT support, high data transfer requirements as well opportunities for rationalization activities in application dense business capabilities.

  • To understand how different organizations support business capabilities:

    Select an organization in the Business Owner field. Review the business capabilities and the applications that support them. Change the business owner to understand differences in organizational support in the landscape.

  • To understand the technical obsolescence of a business capability:

    Select Technical Obsolescence in the Color Rule filter to highlight the risks to the business capabilities based on technical obsolescence. you also highlight the business capabilities based on other factors such as Business Relevance.

  • To understand how the landscape changes over time:

    Enter a date in the future in the Active Date field to understand which applications will be obsolete in the future.
