You can manage pending transactions by creating workflow escalation events. A workflow escalation job generated by the system triggers the event if it has exceeded a specified duration. The workflow escalation event then performs the selected Action on the pending transactions.
If you select the Action as…
Then the event…
Auto-Approve/Reply
Automatically approves the transaction or sends a reply to the requestor (if it was pending for Request Info).
Auto-Reject
Automatically rejects the transaction and sends a notification to the creator of the workflow transaction for feedback.
Warn
Sends a warning mail to the approver as a reminder for taking action.
Escalate to Supervisor
Delegates the workflow transaction to the approver's supervisor.
Note:  
Supervisor has to be assigned for each of the approvers in a level for this event to trigger successfully. For more information on assigning supervisor for a user, see Administering webMethods OneData.
Escalation events can be configured only for supertype object in a supertype/ subtype constructs.
To create a workflow escalation event
1. On the Menu toolbar, click Define > Configuration > Workflow > Workflow Escalation Event. You will see the existing events.
2. Click Add New and complete these fields:

Field Name
Description
* Event Name
Name for the workflow escalation event.
Event Description
Description of the event.
* WF Rule
Workflow rule associated to the event
* WF Level
Workflow rule level associated to the event.
Note:  
If external workflow rule is selected then this attribute is displayed as a text field to enter the level.
* Action
Type of event. The available events are explained in the previous table.
* Conceptual Object / Data Object
Object associated to this event.
Note:  
The drop down shows the objects associated to the selected WF Rule.
*Duration (days)
Number of days after which the event is fired on running the workflow escalation job.
4. Click Save.
