In Optimize for Process, the Process Instances page displays the current status of BAM and BPM processes, and it enables you to search process instances based on a variety of criteria. Note that some information displayed on this page applies to BAM and BPM processes and some is specific to BAM processes.
To view the Process Instances page, navigate the following path in My webMethods:
Navigate > Applications > Monitoring > Business > Process Instances
By default, the Process Instances page shows information about all process instances that are updated today. The display is updated whenever you refresh the page or perform a search.
The following table describes the information on the Process Instances page.
Column
Description
Last Updated
Displays the date and time that Optimize last updated the process instance (that is, when Optimize last received data).
Start Date/Time
Displays the date and time that the process instance began.
Process Name
Identifies the name of the process.
Version
For a webMethods-executed process, this indicates the version of the process model assigned by Software AG Designer. For an externally executed process, this will display “N/A.”
Process Instance ID
Identifies the process instance for each process listed in Process Name.
<Process-specific columns>
For processes that contain custom information, Optimize displays process-specific custom columns when you select a single webMethods process to view. If multiple processes are displayed, the contents of these custom columns are concatenated within the Process Instance ID. Status
Tracks the progress of the process instance through its execution.
Value
Meaning
Started
The process has started, but not all steps have completed. A status of Statistically Abnormal icon indicates that one or more steps may be executing with errors.
Stopped
The process was canceled.
Completed
Either the process completed successfully (Normal Status icon) or the process completed but one or more steps executed with errors (Out of Compliance icon).
Failed
Either the process stopped because one or more steps executed with errors or the process is no longer being tracked and is missing information. This status is not applicable to external (BAM-only) processes.
Failed (Escalated)
Parent process takes control of the failed process instance. The parent process receives notification of the failed process instance and continues executing. You cannot resubmit a process instance with this status because the parent process is no longer waiting for a response.
Suspended
Process execution was paused (Statistically Abnormal icon). This status is not applicable to external (BAM-only) processes.
Resumed
The process was suspended and has been resumed. This status is not applicable to external (BAM-only) processes.
Resubmitted
The process was resubmitted after it failed. This status is not applicable to external (BAM-only) processes.
Revised
Indicates that a running process instance has been updated to a new process model version during execution. When a process version is updated, the status of the running process instance is automatically changed to Revised regardless of its previous status.
Duration
Length of time a process instance was active. Duration is calculated based on the status of the process instance:
*Active. Length of time the process instance has been executing. Duration is calculated by subtracting the start time of the process instance from the current system time.
*Inactive. Length of time the process instance was active. Duration is calculated by subtracting the start time of the process instance from the time the process instance became inactive.
*Timed out or stopped. Length of time the process instance was active. Duration is calculated by subtracting the start time of the process instance from the time the cancel or timeout action occurred.
Note:
For steps that execute in parallel, Duration does not include the overlapping execution time.
Detail
Displays icons to view more details about the steps in the process instance and the KPI instances associated with the process instance. Click the Instance Detail icon Instance Detail icon to display the Process Instance Detail page. For more information about these details, see Viewing Details for a Process Instance. Click the KPI Summary icon KPI Detail icon to display the KPI Summary page and operational metrics associated with the process instance. Note that this functionality is available only for external (BAM only) or analysis enabled webMethods(BPM) processes. The Process Instances page contains the same four search tabs (Keyword, Advanced, Saved, Options) that appear on the Business Processes page and other search-enabled pages throughout My webMethods. These tabs enable you to search for process instances using a variety of criteria and to control the number of process instances displayed. Refer to Using the Analytics Overview Page in this guide for more information or to Working with My webMethods.

When you first access the Process Instances page, the Keyword tab is active and the page shows only those process instances that have been started today.
*To refresh the display of process instances, click the Search button, or to view instances containing a specific word, type the desired word into the Keyword field and click the Search button. If no process instances have been started in the current day, no results are returned. To search for older process instances, click the Advanced tab. For more information, see Searching for Process Instances.
*To save a search, click the Save button and enter a name for the search in the Saved Search dialog box and then click OK. The search is now available on the Saved tab.
*To view a saved search, click the Saved tab and select the desired search from the Saved Search field. Note that the Saved Search drop-down list appears only if there are saved searches available.
*By default, the maximum number of process instances displayed on the Process Instances panel is controlled by the Max Results field on the Options tab. The default setting in this field is 200, and you can change the setting by entering any number up to and including 5,000. To override the setting in the Max Results field, click the No Maximum check box on the Options tab. If you select this check box, the page will display available results up to the 5,000 item limit.
*To export the search results, click the Export Table button in the Process Instances window.
