Managing Rules from the Rule List Page
The following table describes how you can use the Rule List page to manage both rules that you have created as well as pre-defined rules that come with Optimize.
If you want to
Do this
Search for rules by rule name or description or by other search criteria
Use the Search bar. You can search using any of the following search criteria: rule type, rule status, rule expression text, alert user's name, action type, SLA, customer, or severity. For more information about using the Search bar, see Working with My webMethods.
Manage rule instances from the Rule List page
Click View Rule Instances View Rule Instances in the Actions column to display the Rule Instances page. See Managing Rule Instances from the Add/Edit/Copy Rule Page for instructions.
Enable a rule or a rule instance
Click Disabled icon Disabled in the Enabled column for the rule. The icon changes to Enabled Enabled. You can enable all rules at once by clicking Select menu and choosing Select All from the displayed menu and then clicking the Enable button.
Note:
Changing the enable status of a rule does not always alter the enable setting of its rule instances. For example, if a rule instance has been enabled, disabling the rule will disable the rule instance, but will not change the rule instance's setting. Hence, when the rule is re-enabled, the rule instance setting will prevent the rule instance from being enabled.
Disable a rule or a rule instance
Click Enabled icon Enabled in the Enabled column for the rule. The icon changes to Disabled icon. You can disable all rules at once by clicking Select icon and choosing Select All from the displayed menu and then clicking the Disable button.
Note:
If you disable a rule that has a current violation against it, Optimize resets the rule so that it is no longer in violation.
View attribute settings for rules
Note the information displayed in the Type and Sticky columns. You can also determine whether a rule violation has occurred by the icon displayed in the Status column. See Viewing the Rule List for more information.
Edit a rule
Click the edit icon (Edit Rule) in the Action column for the rule.
CAUTION:
If you edit a rule definition, all rule instances associated with that rule are deleted from the system.
If you edit a rule, you can populate the system with updated historical information based on your edit using the Generate Rule Violations icon as described below.
Generate Rule Violations
Click the Generate Rule Violations icon to generate historical rule violations for a rule. If you have edited a rule, when you click this button, Optimize reevaluates all historical system data and generates rule violations according to the revised rule definition. This process is known as rule back population.
Note:
Rule back population does not wok for rules defined on standard deviation.
Copy a rule
Click the copy icon (Copy Rule) in the Action column for the rule. The copied rule name is appended with -COPY.
Delete a rule
Select the check box to the left of the rule and then click Delete.
Important:
Deleting a rule removes all current and historical rule instances associated with that rule.
Export the list of rules to a *.csv (comma separated value) file
Click Export Table. For more information about exporting table data, see Working with My webMethods.
