SMA Version 2.1.2 Release Notes


Prerequisites

SMA Version 2.1 requires the following Software AG products:

  • Natural Version 4.1.x or above

  • Adabas Version 7.1.x or above

Documentation

The SMA Version 2.1.2 documentation is provided in HTML format for electronic distribution. The documentation has been structured for optimal online access including extensive use of hyperlinks to related topics. In addition, a full text search feature is available. All documents are also available as PDF files for selective printing at a user site.

The Online Documentation Main Menu provides an overview of the SMA 2.1.2 documentation.

Installation

The following datasets are no longer provided:

  • SMAnnn.DATA

  • SMAnnn.HELP

  • SMAnnn.SRCE

An additional dataset, SMAnnn.JOBS, is provided.

Migration

The SMA system file must be migrated from SMA Version 1.3.1 or 2.1.1 to 2.1.2, and the data on the system file must be converted accordingly.

Problems Resolved

All corrections and service packs from previous SMA versions are incorporated in this release.

Enhancements

The following enhancements are provided with this release:

Revised Function and Selection Screens

All SMA function and selection screens have been completely revised.

Selection and sort facilities have been enhanced for full compliance with Natural conventions.

Natural System Variable

Usage of Natural system variables (#N-…..# ) within a JCL skeleton is now possible.

Generate Install Jobs in Batch Mode

It is possible to submit a job to generate Installation jobs in batch mode using the online command JB. The generated jobs can also be saved as a member.

The online command JB is not valid for BS2000.

Export to PC

The line command EX can be used to export JCL skeletons, jobs, reports, and zaps to a PC.

Report Paging

It is now possible to page up and down within a report.

Submit Jobs in Any Sequence

It is now possible to submit jobs in any sequence (warning message will be issued).

User Skeleton Selection using PF Key

User JCL skeletons can now be selected using a PF key.

Field-Oriented Help Function

The Help function is now field oriented and available in both English and German.

Direct Access to Functions Using Line Commands

Direct access to functions using line commands is now provided.

Some examples of new line commands which provide direct access to functions are:

  • Environment menu:

    • IP: Install Product

    • JB: Generate JCL in batch mode

    • MG: Modify Parameter by Group

    • MP: Modify Parameter

    • MS: Modify Skeleton

    • RP: Report

    • ZA: Apply Zap

  • Tape menu:

    • MA: Mark for copy. MA now available to set a complete tape/CD to status to be copied

Support To Be Discontinued for German-Language Line Commands

With the next major or minor version of SMA (SMA Version 3.1 or SMA Version 2.2), support for German-language line commands will be discontinued. German-language menus will still be provided.

It is therefore recommended to use English-language line commands to invoke SMA functions.

Note:
English line commands are also valid when using German-language menus.

Support End Date for Previous SMA Version

Support for SMA Version 2.1.1 ends December 31, 2009.
