This chapter explains how to install 9.8 products in a fresh installation directory, prepare your old environment for upgrade, shut down your old products, and back up and then migrate your old database components to 9.8. You must perform these tasks in the exact order in which they are presented in this chapter.For some products, you must then perform additional tasks to complete the product upgrade. These tasks are described in subsequent chapters. You must perform the tasks in these chapters in the exact order in which the chapters and tasks are presented in this guide.For all products, you must perform all tasks in the final chapter in this guide after you have completed all other tasks.You must perform the tasks in this guide for all upgrade paths unless the guide notes that a particular task is required for certain upgrade paths only.You must upgrade a product from its latest service pack. For example, if the latest release of a product in release 8.2 was 8.2 SP3, you must upgrade that product from 8.2 SP3. You cannot upgrade the product from 8.2 SP2 or 8.2 SP1.In webMethods 9.7 and 9.8, the webMethods Broker release number is still 9.6 and is the same release that was available with webMethods 9.6. Even though the release is the same, you must still perform the tasks described in this chapter and this guide for webMethods Broker.
