Inserting a New Record Hierarchy in Conceptual Object Types
Conceptual objects define a relationship between data objects. With data objects, the relationship may represent a hierarchy between a parent and one or more child objects. In self recursive conceptual objects, the parent-child relationship is between records within the same object. In network recursive objects, the relationship is a many-to-many, in which there are multiple relationships between records.
When inserting a new record hierarchy in a conceptual data object or self recursive object, you can create both a new parent record and its corresponding child record at the same time, for example, when you need to create a child record and the desired parent record does not yet exist. For network recursive objects, you can create the parent record and child record in multiple steps on the same screen.
You can create new record relationships for conceptual and self recursive conceptual objects in either advanced parent-child view or tree view. You can create new record hierarchies in only the network recursive objects that are configured to display in tree view. In self recursive and network recursive objects, each level of the hierarchy is known as a node. In these objects you can define a new node at any level of the tree.
When inserting a new record hierarchy, ensure that you follow the path that corresponds to the view defined for the object, either tree or advanced parent-child view.
* To create a new record hierarchy
1. On the Menu toolbar, click Manage > Manage Data.
2. Navigate to the object that you want to edit and select it.
3. Click the Values tab to display records and command options.
4. To insert a new record hierarchy at the top level conceptual object or self recursive conceptual object, use the step that corresponds to the object display view:
*In advanced parent- child view, click Insert > Insert.
*In tree view, expand the tree in the left pane, navigate to relevant parent object, and click Insert > Insert Node.
Tip: Click the Open Next Level icon or Open All Levels to display the tree hierarchy of self recursive objects.
*For network recursive objects in tree view, to create the parent record, click Insert > Insert Node without selecting any existing records. To create a child record navigate to the parent record and then click Insert > Insert Node.
Note: If the cardinality rule is set, OneData displays the objects according to their cardinality rule.
5. Define the record data, ensuring that you define the correct parent object and click Save.
Note: In self recursive conceptual objects, you can drag records to change the record hierarchy.
OneData inserts the selected records.
