Manually Importing Physical Metadata from a Remote Connection
The following procedure explains how to manually import physical metadata from a remote database into OneData. A connection to the remote database must already be configured through Administer > System > Connection Manager.
To manually import physical metadata model from a remote connection
1. On the Menu toolbar, click MetaMap > Import Physical Model > Database Metadata.
2. Select the values as described in the following table:
Field
Description
Select Connection
Select the remote connection.
Select Schema/Owner
Select the schema or owner name associated with selected connection.

Alternate User Name
Alternate Password
Leave these fields blank.
Retrieve Tables
Click Retrieve Tables.
This retrieves the first 100 tables (subset only) for the selected connection and schema/owner. Tables are populated in the Available Table List.
MetaMap System
Enter a system name.
Add new system
Click Add new system.
Filter Table List By
Enter optional filter criteria to limit the results in the Available Table List. Click Filter to set the filter criteria.
Table processing mode
Select Insert only.
Display logs on screen
Select this option to display logs on the screen after import.
Write logs to file
Select this option to write logs to a file, which can be downloaded after import.
Load all tables
Clear the check box.
The Existing Table, Available Table List, and Selected Table List lists can display a limited number of tables and objects. Enabling this property imports all available tables from the selected schema that satisfy the filter in the metamap table structure. If this option is selected, you cannot manually select tables. Available Table and Selected Table appear blank because all tables are loaded by default.
Confirm Transaction
Select this check box for a prompt to confirm changes before they are committed.
Existing Table List
Displays a list of the tables in the selected system.
Available Table List
Select all tables and move them to the Selected Table List pane.
Displays a list of the available tables applicable to the selected connection, schema/owner, and Alternate user Name/Password. Use selection arrows to move tables to Selected Table List.
Selected Table List
Displays a list of tables selected from Available Table List.
3. Click Import.
OneData displays a message indicating if the Data Dictionary imported successfully. If Confirm Transaction is enabled, confirm the changes to commit them.
4. To download the log file, click Download log file. Click Commit or Rollback to accept or rollback the changes.
OneData returns to the Import Data Dictionary screen and displays the log results.
5. To view the new metadata imported in Data Manager:
a. Navigate to one of the objects in the Data Dictionary Physical Model Objects folder.
b. On the Filter screen, select the table. This is one of the metadata objects selected in the import.
c. Click the Values tab to view the imported metadata attributes such as, column name, description, and data type.
Note:  
Security privileges determine if a user can view or edit values. For more information, see Registry Security.
6. When creating an automatic Data Dictionary Import Job, the Import Profile can be added as a Job Step within this job. OneData displays the same Import Data Dictionary screen as in the manual import. Schedule the Data Dictionary Import job like any other import job. When OneData executes the job, the processing log is available as a downloadable file in the job log.
Note:  
A new MetaMap System cannot be defined when using the Import Job.
