Manually Importing Physical Metadata Models Using JDBC Database Metadata
You can import the physical metadata model manually or automatically. To import the physical metadata model, and load relational dictionaries, you must have already configured a connection to the remote database. Determine the status of the connection to the remote database through the Connection Console and Connection Manager.
When using the Import Physical Model > File, the import is a two step process.
*Define the mapping profile.
*Import the file or schedule an import at periodic intervals or interactively.
The following table lists the physical model objects.
Name
Description
System Columns
Table/Column system dictionary reads
System Constraints
Contains the system constraints
System Tables
Dictionary of tables from different systems.
System/Application Master List
System/Application inventory master list.
System/Tables/Columns
Contains the tables and columns in the system.
To manually import a physical metadata model using JDBC database metadata
1. On the Menu toolbar, click Import Physical Model > Database Metadata.
2. On the Import Data Dictionary screen, define the following fields:
Field
Description
Select Connection
Select an existing remote connection.
Select Schema/Owner
Select schema or owner name associated with selected connection.

Alternate User Name
Alternate Password
Specify an Alternate User Name and Alternate Password to access a different schema through the existing connection.
Retrieve Tables
Retrieves the first 100 tables (subset only) for the selected connection and schema/owner. Tables are populated in the Available Table List.
MetaMap System
Specify the system to which metadata is exported. Select an existing MetaMap system.
Add new system
To add a new MetaMap system, enter the name in the text box and click Add new system. This is useful to avoid duplicating data in the same MetaMap system.
Filter Table List By
Enter optional filter criteria to limit the results in the Available Table List. Click Filter to set the filter criteria. Click Clear Filter to remove the filter criteria.
Table processing mode
*Insert only. Discards existing table(s).
*Update incremental. Inserts new columns/relationships in existing table(s). Updates all modified columns and relationships.
Display logs on screen
Indicates whether to display logs to the user after import.
Write logs to file
Indicates whether to write logs to a file, which can be downloaded after import.
Load all tables
The Existing Table, Available Table List, and Selected Table List lists can display a limited number of tables and objects. Enabling this property imports all available tables from the selected schema that satisfy the filter in the metamap table structure. If this option is selected, you cannot manually select tables. Available Table and Selected Table appear blank because all tables are loaded by default.
Confirm Transaction
Indicates whether to prompt the user to confirm the changes before they are committed.
Existing Table List
Displays a list of the tables in the selected system.
Available Table List
Displays a list of the available tables applicable to the selected connection, schema/owner, and Alternate user Name/Password. Use selection arrows to move tables to Selected Table List.
Selected Table List
Displays a list of tables selected from Available Table List.
3. Click Import.
4. Click Commit to complete the import process or Rollback to return without importing.
