Creating A Network Recursive Structure
Network recursive structures are best viewed as conceptual objects. Currently recursive conceptual objects are limited to tree view only.
Note: | You must first create the individual data object before you can establish a relationship between the objects. For more information about creating the data object, see Creating Data Objects Manually. |
To create a network recursive structure
1. On the Menu toolbar, click Define > Objects and select the data object that holds the relationship.
2. Create a foreign key (primary network recursive) relationship to the relevant data object, by doing the following:
a. Select the Structure tab.
b. Click Edit Constraints.
c. Click Add new Foreign Key constraint and complete the fields.
Note: | For the field Related Table Name, you must select the physical table name of the related data object. |
d. Set the Network Recursive option to Primary Network Recursive.
e. Click Save.
3. Set up a foreign key (secondary network recursive) to the related data object:
a. In the Edit Constraints screen, click Add new Foreign Key constraint and complete the fields.
Note: | For the field Related Table Name, you must select the physical table name of the related data object. |
b. Set the Network Recursive option to Secondary Network Recursive.
c. Click Save.
You have set up network recursive relation in data object. Access the data object that holds the values, to see the relations in data manager.
4. If you want to create a conceptual object to view the network recursive relation:
Note: | To view the values properly in the conceptual object, you must select the column level property Is Description Column? for one of the columns in the network recursive data object (that holds the values). |
a. Navigate back to the folder that contains the network recursive data objects.
b. Click Add Object and complete the fields. The following fields must be noted.
For this field... | You must select... |
Object Type | Conceptual Object |
Top Level Object | Network recursive data object that you created to hold values. |
View Conceptual Object As | Tree |
Mode | Default Note: | You must always select Default mode for the records to display properly in data manager. |
|
c. Click Save.
d. In the screen to select the constituent object, select the data object that holds the values and also the data object that holds the relationship.
e. Click Save.
