Construct a double
value from an item value.

This is a constructor function that takes an item value as argument and
returns a value of type xs:double
. If the argument is a literal,
then the literal must be a valid lexical form of its type.

represents a double-precision floating point number according to IEEE 754-1985.
The lexical form uses scientific notation, consisting of the mantissa which
must be a decimal number, the letter "E" or "e", and an exponent which must be
an integer value.
