The webMethods EntireX Adapter enables webMethods Integration Server to consume (IS outbound) as well as provide (IS inbound) EntireX RPC services. EntireX supports bidirectional integration with Natural, COBOL, PL/I, C and other applications on z/OS, z/VSE, BS2000/OSD and other platforms. On Linux, UNIX and Windows also Micro Focus COBOL can be integrated with EntireX, bidirectionally.
This document covers the following topics:
Enhanced Update Functionality in EntireX Workbench
Enhanced update functionality for adapter connections, services and listeners
in the EntireX Workbench. See the EntireX Workbench documentation for details.
Multiple worker threads can be configured for a listener to improve the throughput of synchronous listeners. Listener connections have to use either Direct RPC or the webMethods EntireX Broker version 9.0 (or above).
Entry and exit handler services can be specified which are called before and after the execution of the service invoked by the listener, respectively.
Service execution can use the RPC client credentials to restrict the access to services.
Security Support in the Adapter
Security support in the Adapter is now documented, see
Security Support.
Support for Application Monitoring
The connection types CICS ECI and IMS Connect as well as the Direct RPC
component collect response times that are processed by the Application Monitoring Data Collector.
This functionality is part of the product webMethods Optimize for
Infrastructure.
For details, see the Guide for Enterprise Transaction Systems
in the webMethods Optimize for Infrastructure documentation.
Debug/trace log messages now require server logging level "Trace" instead of "Info".
Names of trace files now contain a date indication, e.g. wmentirex20130415.log.
The connection types CICS ECI and IMS Connect now use the full range of trace levels.
To enable the logging of the buffers, use trace level 2
.
Direct RPC Enhancements
The Direct RPC component now supports the SSL/TLS secure transport protocol.
A New Mode for Null Value Suppression
The option Suppress null elements and trim array cells at end containing
null elements and zero numbers
has been added to the suppression modes for null value supression, see
Configuring Null Value Suppression.
Enhanced Publish Document Support for Reliable Listener Notifications
In addition to webMethods Broker/local it is now also possible
to publish the notification document to a JMS provider. Publishing the document now requires
that the listener notification is enabled.
Enhanced Character Encoding Handling for RPC Connections
For adapter connections of type "RPC", "Reliable RPC",
"RPC Listener" and "Reliable RPC Listener",
as well as "ACI Server" it is now possible to specify an arbitrary character encoding,
including EBCDIC and multibyte character encodings. This allows you, for example, to
specify in an EntireX RPC connection the encoding required by an RPC server that can run on mainframe.
In this case, conversion to the mainframe encoding is already done by the adapter.
There is no need for a conversion to be performed by the EntireX Broker.
A new service parameter cics_trim_unbounded_arrays
has been introduced
to enable the trimming of unbounded arrays.
A new property watt.com.softwareag.entirex.wmadapter.cics.eci.applicationid.prefix has been added to the Integration Server extended settings to specify the application ID prefix for CICS ECI.
Additional Adapter Service Parameter for EntireX RPC Connections
The adapter service parameter server.address
has been added to change
dynamically the RPC server address belonging to an EntireX RPC connection.
The EntireX Adapter supports all platforms supported by Integration Server 9.0. An Adapter running with Integration Server 8.2 supports all platforms supported by Integration Server 8.2 that are still supported in the current release. See https://empower.softwareag.com/Products/Documentation/default.asp under "webMethods" > "webMethods Product Suite" > "Documentation by Product" > "Integration Server" > "System Requirements" (pdf).
Release Notes for earlier releases of the EntireX Adapter. These are provided as PDF files for users who may be upgrading from an earlier version of EntireX Adapter.
Software AG provides support for the operating system versions supported by their respective manufacturers. Generally, when an operating system provider stops supporting a version of an operating system, Software AG will stop supporting that operating system version as of the next system maintenance (SM) level delivered by Software AG. Although it may be technically possible to run a new version of webMethods EntireX Adapter on an old operating system, Software AG cannot continue to support operating system versions that are no longer supported by the system's provider.
Please contact Software AG if the webMethods EntireX Adapter you require is not yet available on a particular platform. This also applies if the platform is not listed in the table above.
