About Subprocess Behavior
Subprocess and call activity steps can have subprocess markers Subprocess marker icon. The difference is that subprocesses always have subprocess markers, whereas call activities only have subprocess markers if they contain a reference to another (callable) process and are thus expandable. There is no configuration for a subprocess marker.
BPMN processes can be designated as callable. A BPMN callable process has a defined input and output signature, known as a global process specification, and can be invoked by a call activity. See Call Activity Concepts and Defining a Global Process Specification for more information.
