If you already created the constituent data objects, follow the steps in this section to create the conceptual object. You can also create the constituent data objects in the course of creating a conceptual object as explained in Creating A Conceptual Object Using Add Hierarchy.
*To create a conceptual object
1. On the Menu toolbar, click Define > Objects and navigate to the folder in which you want to create the object.
2. Click Add Object.
3. Enter the necessary details and select Object Type as Conceptual Object.
Note:
The name of the conceptual object that you specify in Display Name is shown in the tree/advanced parent child view when the conceptual object is accessed in Data Manager.
4. Complete the conceptual object properties:
Property
Description
Top Level Object
The top level or root node of the conceptual object.
View Conceptual Object As
The navigation pattern to display the records in the object, as a tree, parent child, or advanced parent child.
*Tree. Normally used for self-recursive or network recursive structures. Each constituent object in the conceptual object must have a description column. This displays column values in the tree as the user navigates through the hierarchy.
*Parent-child. Provides a single node for navigating the object hierarchy. This omits the navigation pane feature.
*Advanced Parent-child: Provides a single point of interface for maintenance and drill-down on hierarchies. You can manipulate the data in child entities with the use of a navigation pane.
Description Column Length
The description column length to set the appearance of the tree navigation pane.
Default Child Filter
Select the object that displays by default as the child object.
Note:
If you are using SQL Server, this option is not available.
Security Inheritance Rule
For conceptual objects in Tree view, only Root-Based Security may be selected.
5. Complete the other object fields. See Object Definition Properties for information about each field.
6. Click Save.
OneData displays the child objects of the top level object recognized by the foreign key relationships.
7. Select the required objects and click Save. You can also select Leaf Nodes for constituents.
Note:
You must select the Is Description Column? of at least one column in each of the constituent objects to display the conceptual object correctly.
