The Single Sign-on Service (2007) or Secure Store Service (2010) in SharePoint are required to use the Business Analytics Add-On for SharePoint Single Sign-On feature. This significantly improves the user experience by removing or reducing login challenges. See Microsoft documentation for more details on single sign-on capabilities in SharePoint.

Note:

Per Microsoft, SharePoint Server 2010 requires a 64-bit architecture.

Business Analytics Add-On for SharePoint supports SharePoint 2010 with Firefox, Chrome, and MS Internet Explorer 10 and higher. If you want to use the SharePoint add on with SharePoint 2010 and Internet Explorer Versions 7, 8 and 9 you have to force SharePoint 2010 to use the Internet Explorer 10 mode. For this you need to update your master page to set the version of Internet Explorer to 10 or above using an appropriate meta tag, e.g. <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=10" />.

In most installations, authentication between SharePoint and Business Analytics uses the NTLM version 2 protocol.
