This document describes the new features, changes and enhancements for Entire Connection Version 4.5.4. The following topics are covered:
Entire Connection Version 4.5.4 is a 32-bit application. When installed on a 64-bit Windows operating system, Entire Connection will run under WOW64. WOW64 is an x86 emulator that allows 32-bit Windows-based applications to run seamlessly on 64-bit Windows.
Entire Connection can be installed on the following operating systems:
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Microsoft Windows 8 Professional
Microsoft Windows Server 2008
Microsoft Windows Server 2012
Windows Terminal Services are supported with the following exceptions: they are not supported for the session types VTxxx serial port and HLLAPI.
For further information, see Prerequisites in the Installation section.
In the session properties, you can now define the keypads that are to be shown in the terminal emulation. The behavior in the terminal emulation depends on whether keypads are defined in the session properties or not. For detailed information, see the description of the General page of the Session Properties dialog box in the Overview of Object Properties.
It is now possible to define which protocols are allowed during the initial handshake between the TN3270 server and Entire Connection: SSL V3, TLS V 1.0, TLS V 1.1, and/or TLS V 1.2. For detailed information, see the description of the Security page of the Communication dialog box in the Overview of Object Properties.
Caution:
It is not recommended to use the SSL V3 protocol because of the
"Poodle" vulnerability which exploits a weakness in this protocol.
Therefore, the SSL V3 protocol is disabled by default. See also the
Poodle Note at
https://empower.softwareag.com/Products/Security/poodle.asp
(Empower login required). You should only activate SSL V3 if the TN3270 server
does not support TLS 1.0 and above.
In addition, the SSL V3 protocol is now disabled in all TN3270 sessions which have been created using an earlier version of Entire Connection (4.5.3 and below). It is therefore possible that a TN3270 SSL session which was working in Entire Connection Version 4.5.3 now shows an error message when you try to connect.
The SSL V2 protocol is not supported.
It is now possible to configure the terminal model for host sessions of type BS2000 TCP/IP. For detailed information, see the description of the Communication BS2000 TCP/IP dialog box in the Overview of Object Properties.
A new chapter Backup and Restore is available in the Installation section. The information in this chapter is helpful, if you want to back up your settings and data on a regular basis, or if you want to install Entire Connection on a new PC and want to reuse the settings and data from your old PC.
The option Disable data transfer enhancements has been removed from the Data Transfer page of the session properties.
The option Interpret as Entire Connection 3.1 translation table has been removed from the National page of the session properties.
You can still use the Multiplan file format, however, it is no longer supported by Entire Connection.
Entire Connection Version 4.5.4 is the last version to support the host session type HLLAPI. This session type will no longer be supported in future versions.
Entire Connection Version 4.5.4 is the last version to support the host session type VTxxx. This session type will no longer be supported in future versions.
