OpenTelemetry is an open standard for collecting and managing observability data from applications and services. It provides a common framework that helps monitor and analyze the behavior, performance, and health of a system.
Our product uses the three main types of telemetry data defined by OpenTelemetry:
Traces – Provides information about the flow of a request through the system. Traces help follow an operation across different components and identify where time is spent or where failures occur.
Metrics – Provides numerical measurements about the system, such as resource usage, request counts, response times, and other performance-related values. Metrics can be used to monitor the overall behavior and health of the application.
Logs – Provides detailed records of events that occur during application execution. Logs can help investigate errors, warnings, and other relevant runtime events.
By collecting traces, metrics, and logs, OpenTelemetry provides a more complete view of the system and makes it easier to monitor application behavior, identify performance issues, and troubleshoot problems.
