Installing Natural TSO Interface for z/OS

This section describes the steps for installing the Natural TSO Interface (product code NTI) on z/OS.

Notation vrs or vr:

When used in this document, the notation vrs or vr represents the relevant product version (see also Version in the Glossary).

Installation Methods

You can install the product using either a Workflow Installation or a Manual Installation.

Workflow Installation

The Workflow Installation uses a z/OSMF workflow to guide you through the installation process. It provides a structured sequence of tasks, tracks progress, and helps reduce the risk of missing required steps.

Manual Installation

The Manual Installation follows the procedures described in this guide. It is suitable if you prefer a documentation-based installation process or if a z/OSMF workflow is not available in your environment.

Both installation methods achieve the same result. Choose the method that best fits your environment and installation practices.

Prerequisites

See General Prerequisites and System Support in the section Overview of the Installation Process.

Installation Medium

The installation medium contains the following data set required for product installation:

Data Set Name Contents
NTIvrs.LOAD Load modules

Copy the data set into your environment as described in Copying Data Sets to a z/OS Disk in the section Installing Natural.

Sample Jobs

Sample installation jobs are contained in the NATvrs.JOBS data set and are prefixed with the product code. The data set is provided on the installation medium supplied for base Natural.

Installing Natural TSO Manually

Be sure to read Installation for z/OS before you start the installation procedure.

Note for LE Options:

If you want Natural to run in the IBM Language Environment (LE), set the System Maintenance Aid (SMA) parameter NAT-LE to Y (Yes). The default setting is N (No). Additionally, if you want to modify the LE options in the NATLEOPT source module or if you use non-Natural programs running in 24-bit mode, set the appropriate SMA parameter as described in Build the Natural-Specific IBM Language Environment Options in Installing Natural.

The installation procedure consists of the steps below.

Step 1: Create the CLIST for the Natural TSO Interface

(Job I070, Step 2400)

Create a TSO CLIST for Natural.

This CLIST is used later to invoke Natural under TSO. Note that the CLIST supplied with this step is only a basic example which you can adapt to your requirements and to your TSO environment.

Step 2: Create ADARUN Cards

(Job I070, Step 2410)

Create ADARUN cards in a source library.

This is required by the CLIST created in Step 1: Create the CLIST for the Natural TSO Interface.

Step 3: Build the Natural Parameter Module

(Job I080, Steps 0010, 0015)

  1. Modify the Natural parameter module for TSO.

    • Configure the TSO batch interface:

Modify the settings of the parameters supplied with the NTTSOP macro in the Natural parameter module to meet your requirements. For descriptions of these parameters, see the corresponding dynamic profile parameter TSOP in the Parameter Reference documentation.

    • Modify the following parameters:

      FNAT=(database-id,file-number)
      FUSER=(database-id,file-number)

where database-id and file-number are the values you specified when loading the system files during the Installation Procedure for base Natural.

    • Global buffer pool:

If you want to use a global buffer pool, specify the NTBPI macro.

    • For all other parameters:

You can generally use the default values. Modify only the values of those parameters whose default values do not suit your requirements. For descriptions of the individual parameters contained in the parameter module, refer to the Parameter Reference documentation.

For dynamic assignment of profile parameters, see also the CMPRMIN data set described in the section Natural in Batch Mode in the Operations documentation.

  2. Assemble and link the Natural parameter module.

Step 4: Link the Nucleus

(Job I080, Step 0020)

Link the environment-dependent nucleus.

Step 5: Make the Adabas Interface Available

Skip this step if the Adabas link module is available in your LPA.

Perform either of the following steps:

  • Include the Adabas load library in the steplib of your TSO user procedures.

  • Copy the modules listed in the section referring to installation with TSO of the appropriate Adabas installation documentation to a library of your TSO user steplib.

Installing Natural TSO with Workflows

Before you Install Natural TSO with z/OSMF Workflows

z/OSMF Workflows can be downloaded from the Software Download Center (SDC) on our Empower Portal at https://empower.softwareag.com.

Before you use z/OSMF Workflows to install a mainframe product, ensure that the following are present:

  1. Access to z/OS UNIX System Services (USS)

For the installation, you need access to USS to transfer and store the required workflows and related files.

  2. Access to z/OSMF

For the installation, the user needs access to the z/OS Management Facility to run the Workflows application.

  3. Product data sets

Product data sets of Adabas, Natural, and Natural TSO Interface must already be present on disk. Otherwise, the user needs to transfer them from the delivery tape to the mainframe system with all required information.

  4. Data sets authorized with APF

The sequence must be as shown:

    <HLQ-PROD>.ADAvrs.LOAD
    <HLQ-PROD>.MLCvrs.LOAD
    <HLQ-ENV>.OSMF.LOAD

  5. License files for Adabas and Natural

The following license files are required:

    ADAvrs.LICS Adabas license file
AOSvrs.LICS Adabas Online System license file
    NATvrs.LICS Natural license file

  6. Existing instance of an Adabas SVC

This workflow iteration does not install a new SVC. You require an existing SVC, or you need to install a new one before you start with the workflow installation. See the Adabas documentation for information about installing the SVC.

  7. Configured variableInputFile

The workflows utilize a variable input file to (pre-)configure and save environment values. Whilst it is not necessary, its use is strongly recommended.

To Install a Natural TSO Environment with Workflows

  1. Create a Natural TSO Interface workflow instance.

  2. Click Review Variable Values.

If all values of the variable input file are appropriate for your environment, continue with the next steps.

  3. Click Create Installation Sources and Procedures.

The description of the step as well as any expected errors are shown on screen.

Perform the step to create the required Natural TSO Interface installation data sets, sources and procedures and review the output. Close the window to return to the overview of the work steps.

  4. Perform the steps under Link Natural TSO Interface Components and submit them.

The Natural TSO Interface installation is completed.

Installation Verification

You can verify the successful installation of the Natural TSO Interface by performing the following steps:

  1. Start a TSO session in ISPF mode.

  2. Invoke the CLIST you created in Step 1: Create the CLIST for the Natural TSO Interface.

    Example:

    TSO EX 'SAGLIB.SMASRCE(NTICLIST)'
  3. Proceed with the steps described in the section Test Online Natural.
