New, Modified and Dropped Features

This document describes the new and modified features in Adabas Version 7.5:

New Features

A more detailed description of the new features can be found in the corresponding section of the Adabas Utilities manual.

ADANUC

  • A list of all activated license files with its expiration dates is written to the nucleus log file.

  • Avoid DB corruption by second nucleus start:

    • A second nucleus start is now inhibited.

    • The nucleus writes a _DB_LOCK file containing the host name and the process ID.

    • Any starting nucleus is checking this file for existence before starting.

    • This avoids concurrent access and DB corruption in case of a shared disk configuration.

  • During startup, the Adabas nucleus writes a warning message to the nucleus log if the Linux GDB tool is not available.

  • Nucleus logging now supports UTC time (the default is local time).

  • All Adabas response sub codes are reflected in ACBXERRC.

  • Global Format Pool allocation has been changed:

Global Format Pool size has been increased from 4 MB to 40 MB, to get better performance using large Global Format buffers.

Adabas FDT Long Name Support

  • All Adabas fields now support long names as a separate entry in the FDT.

  • Existing entries in FDTs will be updated during ADACVT.

  • By default, the long name equals the short name.

  • Long names can be set explicitly:

    • Using long names in a FDT to create a file.

    • Via the ADADBM utility.

  • Long names can be read using the LF command with command option 2 set to "L" or "M".

  • The long names are shown in the ADAREP output as well.

  • Utilities and Adabas REST Administration have been adapted to support long names.

  • Long names cannot be used in the Format Buffer (FB). This is to ensure compatibility with existing applications.

ADAKMS

  • New utility for Data at Rest encryption key handling.

  • Support of key rotation of the Key Encryption Key (KEK) in the Key Management System (KMS):

The Key Management System is used for encrypted DBs to encrypt the Data Encryption Key (DEK).

Adabas RESTful Server

The Adabas RESTful server now supports HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS). For more information, see HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS).

OpenTelemetry

OpenTelemetry is supported:

  • With Adabas REST Administration, various monitoring KPIs of the nucleus can be made available.

  • All nucleus log entries are provided as well.

Modified Features

ADASEL

  • Long names are supported.

  • The output can be restricted to changes only.

  • Correction for PLOG extents without ET synchronization.

ADADBM

ADD_FIELDS at end of level 2 fields possible.

Utility History Location

  • The location of utility history files has changed from $HOME/.adabas to $HOME/.adabas/history. History is persisted only if this directory exists.

  • To take over history files from a previous Adabas version move all .history files from $HOME/.adabas/ into the directory $HOME/.adabas/history/.

    mkdir -p $HOME/.adabas/history
    chmod 700 $HOME/.adabas
    chmod 700 $HOME/.adabas/history
    mv $HOME/.adabas/*.history $HOME/.adabas/history/

Security

  • Security Audit Log:

    • The audit log location is now DB-specific. This allows more fine-grained configuration for the DBA.

    • Timestamp can be set to UTC or local time.

  • The effective user name is now used for RBAC roles for the utilities.

  • Token-based authentication is now supported for utilities.

  • Traditional user ID and password authentication is still supported.

  • Secured intra-cluster communication:

Communication between the cluster nodes can now be TLS/SSL secured.

Adabas REST Administration

A change in ADADATADIR is now also reflected within the Adabas REST administration server.
