When the |
zIIP support by the Event Replicator for Adabas, is a new feature that enables the Event Replicator Server on z/OS to offload part of its workload from the mainframe’s general processors (GP) to System z Integrated Information Processors (zIIP).
Offloading work from the general processors will free up some of their capacity. This helps decrease the total cost of operation (TCO) of the GPs and makes room for running additional workload on them.
To be able to support zIIPs, the Event Replicator Server must run with an Adabas version that provides zIIP support. For this version of Event Replicator for Adabas, use either Adabas for zIIP version 8.4 SP3 or Adabas for zIIP version 8.3 SP5.
Adabas source databases that send replication data to the Event Replicator Server may - but need not - support zIIPs, too. This is independent of whether the Event Replicator Server supports zIIPs. To run an Adabas source database with zIIP support, use either Adabas for zIIP 8.4 SP3 or Adabas for zIIP 8.3 SP5.
With Event Replicator for Adabas 3.7 SP1, use one of the following combinations of Adabas and the Event Replicator in the Adabas source databases and the Event Replicator Server:
Source Adabas Nucleus | Event Replicator Server |
---|---|
Adabas for zIIP 8.4 SP3, Adabas 8.4 SP2, Adabas for zIIP 8.3 SP5, or Adabas 8.3 SP4 and Event Replicator for Adabas 3.7 SP1 or 3.6 SP1 |
Adabas for zIIP 8.4 SP3 and Event Replicator for Adabas 3.7 SP1 |
Adabas for zIIP 8.3 SP5 or Adabas 8.3 SP4 and Event Replicator for Adabas 3.7 SP1 or 3.6 SP1 |
Adabas for zIIP 8.3 SP5 and Event Replicator for Adabas 3.7 SP1 |
Prerequisites and additional information to enable zIIP support in the Event Replicator for Adabas are described in a new separate section Special Considerations for zIIP Support under Event Replicator Installation Steps for z/OS Systems in the Installation documentation.
For the Event Replicator Server initialization parameter DESTINATION the new sub-parameter DCLASSPARM ADA is available for SAGTARG. Specify the ADA keyword in the DCLASSPARM parameter if the target of the destination requires the Adabas 2-byte short name be included with the schema for all fields.
Specify the new LOGOUTPUTTRANSACTION parameter if you wish to write output items to the SLOG system file.
This parameter can also be maintained online in Adabas Event Replicator Subsystem (SYSRPTR). For more information, read about the Log Output Transaction parameter in Setting Global Values
