User exit 9 is called (when present) for each record selected before writing the record to the output data set. The user exit is supplied with the record address, and returns an action code as follows:

| 2 | Write record to DD/OUT2; |
| 3 | Write record to DD/OUT1 and DD/OUT2; |
| I | Ignore this record. |
