Concepts and Facilities

Adabas Parallel Services (formerly Adabas Support for Multiprocessing or ADASMP) is a selectable unit of Adabas that helps you make full use of multiple-engine processors by allowing a single physical database to be accessed simultaneously by up to 31 nuclei.

Adabas Parallel Services extends the earlier Adabas SMP capability to allow all nuclei in a cluster to process updates concurrently.

This document is organized as follows:

../graphics/gr_b_sm.gif What is Adabas Parallel Services? Provides a high-level description of the product.
../graphics/gr_b_sm.gif Adabas Parallel Services and Adabas Cluster Services Describes the differences between Adabas Parallel Services and Adabas Cluster Services.
../graphics/gr_b_sm.gif Assigning Users Describes how Adabas Parallel Services assigns users to nuclei in a cluster.
../graphics/gr_b_sm.gif Cluster Tasks Describes the types of tasks that comprise an Adabas Parallel Services cluster.
../graphics/gr_b_sm.gif Global Areas Describes global area usage in Adabas Parallel Services.
../graphics/gr_b_sm.gif Global Messaging Services Describes the messaging services that are essential to communication among the active nuclei of an Adabas Parallel Services cluster.
