Important:
Adabas Caching Version 8.1.3 is relevant only for z/OS users who
wish to take advantage of Virtual 64 storage backed by large page support. All
other users should continue to use Adabas Caching Version 8.1.2.
Adabas Caching can be used to improve system performance by augmenting the Adabas buffer pool in extended memory, data spaces, hiperspace and, in selected environments, 64-bit virtual storage, as well as 64-bit virtual backed by large pages which is enabled using the IBM z/OS Large Page Support provided with IBM z/OS 1.9 or above and enabled on the z10 IBM mainframe processor.
Adabas Caching Version 8.1.3 provides support for Virtual 64 storage backed by large pages in those environments that support this type of storage. When Virtual 64 storage is used, the controlling structures for ADACSH are also moved into Virtual 64 storage, thus removing some of the storage constraints when using very large cache spaces.
Important:
Before installing and using Adabas Caching Version 8.1.3, ensure
that all Prerequisites have been
met.
Adabas Caching Version 8.1.3 supports the following cache type options:
Option | Extended Memory | Data Spaces | Hiperspace | 64-bit Virtual | 64-bit Virtual Backed by Large Page Support |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
z/OS | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes (see also Prerequisites below) |
For more information on cache types, see section Caching Configuration.
The following are prerequisites for Adabas Caching Version 8.1.3:
Adabas Version 8.1.3 or above.
The following Adabas Version 8.1.3 zaps are required: AI813027, AI813028, AI813029.
Virtual 64-bit storage backed by large pages can only be used on IBM
z10 mainframes running z/OS Version 1.9 or above and for which IBM large page
support has been enabled via IBM APAR OA20902. You must also allocate the size
of the large page pool (use the LFAREA
parameter in the
IEASYSxx member of SYS1.PARMLIB). The LFAREA
parameter
allows you to specify the amount of real storage to be used for large pages;
this parameter cannot be changed dynamically and, if it is not set, page frames
will remain allocated at a size of 4K.
Adabas Online System (AOS), either the demo version delivered with Adabas or full version available as a selectable unit, is a prerequisite for using the Adabas Caching Online Services, which is the online, menu-driven application used to maintain and monitor the Adabas Caching environment. Adabas Caching Online Services is included as part of the Adabas Version 8.1 Natural INPL dataset.
Natural Version 3.1 or above is a prerequisite for AOS and Adabas Caching Online Services.
The following operator commands and parameters have been modified with Version 8.1.3 in conjunction with 64-bit Virtual Backed by Large Page Support:
